Who am i?
My name is Reeve Recor and I'm a first-year undergraduate student at the University of St Andrews Studying International Relations, History, and French. I am raising 2,500 pounds to take part in the Volunteer Zambia program this summer as a way to positively impact local communities around the city of Lusaka while gaining experience working for an international NGO (non-governmental organization). This would be an amazing opportunity to help youth development in Zambia and to allow me to move towards my professional goals of working in international humanitarian work- please support me in getting there!
What is volunteer zambia?
Volunteer Zambia is a long-standing program through which students from universities across the UK are placed with the NGO Sport in Action to work on the ground in Zambia. I will be living in Lusaka, Zambia for 8 weeks with 14 other students who all contribute to Sport in Action's mission. This NGO works to further youth development in Zambia through accessible sport programs that foster leadership and teamwork skills. They also emphasize female-focused programming, though sessions are still open to all children. Sport in Action develops local teams, coaches, and leagues through which kids get consistent sports programming. Sport in Action also supplements sport sessions with things like Health-focused or leadership workshops, making an undeniable impact on local kids.
what is my role?
I will be traveling to Zambia as Women's Football Development Officer, meaning my primary role is to work within the football program and help advance it over the 8 weeks. One of my primary goals is to train local people to become youth coaches, making sure that these coaches can then offer sustainable community connection and sport participation to the kids long after I leave Zambia. They will be given coaching certifications recognized by local sports organizations, and will learn to deliver important leadership programming.
Where is the money going?
The 2,500 pounds that I am raising will go directly towards the costs of my participation. This includes things like:
- Flight to and from Zambia
- Vaccinations/Medical
- Sports Equipment for youth
- Other areas of greatest need.
