Fundraising for a once in a lifetime experience to coach netball in Zambia.

volunteer zambia

Volunteer Zambia is an international sport programme run by the Wallace group - a collaboration between leading UK universities that supports the work of Zambian sports NGO, Sport in Action.

Myself and other student volunteers will travel to Zambia’s capital city, Lusaka to help teach the delivery of sustainable sport for young people in some of Zambia’s poorest communities.

My role will be to teach and coach netball to young people of school age. I hope to inspire and bring them joy through the love of netball. This experience will be life changing for us all.

Who am i?

My name is Emily, I am a second year Modern History student at the University of St Andrews. I have played netball since early primary school and it was a huge part of my life throughout high school. Netball opened up vast opportunities for me; allowing myself to compete at a national level. I captained my high school and district teams, leaving me with friends for life. I now continue this journey in my University’s competitive team.

my story

I have always been in a very fortunate position, and having access to resources and opportunities is something I will forever be grateful for. These have helped to shape the person I am today. Sport is a huge part of my life, and a passion that I hope to pursue for a long as possible. This amazing opportunity will enable me to share my love for sport and hopefully this will rub off on the children I will be teaching! I truly believe that sport should be embraced by all no matter what gender, race or background.

How the money will be raised.

For this opportunity to become possible I will be taking part in some team and individual fundraising events:

St Andrews Colour Run

  • A 5km colour run, open to the St Andrews community, around April time.
Many running events throughout the coming months!
  • I am a very keen runner; I hope to run a half marathon in the next month or so, as well as some 5 and 10km(s) along the way.

There will also be smaller events , such as bake sales and BBQs- keep a look out for them!
