Volunteer Zambia
Volunteer Zambia is a programme run by the Wallace Group, which operates through a collaboration between eight UK universities (including St Andrews). It uses sport as a tool to engage, educate and empower young people both in Zambia, around Lusaka, and the UK and enables them to learn key skills such as teamwork and communication while focusing on the enjoyment which sport can bring to the lives of young people.Who Am I?
Hi! I am Alex, a second-year Marine Biology student at the University of St Andrews, who is so excited for the journey I am about to embark on! Sport has always been a significant part of my life, starting, most likely, when I was able to walk. Playing three sports throughout my high school career and allowing the communities formed through them to become a central aspect of my life, it would be a lie to say that sports have not greatly shaped who I am today. Experiencing something like Volunteer Zambia is an adventure that I eagerly look forward to participating in.My project
A key aspect of this adventure is raising £2,500. I have a couple of ideas on how to do this!
I will be working with others on this journey, as well as independently, to try to reach as many people as possible and raise awareness about this project. Beginning over winter break, I will take my fundraising back home to the states and will try to get as many people as possible on board with my journey :)
I hope to partner with local businesses and host fun events, such as bake sales and prize raffles. Additionally, as a newly certified yoga teacher, I would love to run some charity classes! I am looking forward to making fundraising a fun experience for whoever participates!
Where will the money go?
The £2,500 will be an indirect donation to Sport in Action, covering many aspects of my journey, including travel, visas, vaccinations, and other expenses. This will enable me to address areas of need in Zambia, creating a sports community that will enrich the lives of Zambian youth. This money also goes to charity, supporting and empowering children in need through sport.
Please note: All payments will be processed at the time of donation. This means you will be charged immediately upon making your donation. In the event that a project does not reach its specified target, your donation will be directed towards the area of greatest need within the programme. This approach allows us to maximise the impact of your support and ensures that your contribution continues to make a meaningful difference. If you have any questions or concerns about this update, please do not hesitate to contact us at saintsfunder@st-andrews.ac.uk.
Help this adventure!
No need to donate to help me succeed! I would be grateful if you could share my project with anyone to raise awareness about the cause and with anyone you think might support me.
The more people who know about it, the more likely I am to reach my fundraising goal! There are also options to sign up as a helper or a follower, so please check those out as well.
