Tonight is opening night! We have had a busy and stressful week of technical and dress rehearsals and the show is looking amazing.
The student singers are now working with the Fitzwilliam Band, a fully professional orchestra which is led by Lucy Russell of the Fitzwilliam Quartet. This is a magical opportunity for the singers who have been taking tips and hints from the orchestra in recitative rehearsals this week.
It has also been very special for the students to get to perform under lighting, designed by Stephen Harrison, and in costume, designed by Gregor Donnelly all whilst using the full set for the first time, also designed by Gregor.
Next week we are heading to Berwick-Upon-Tweed for two shows in The Maltings and then on to London to perform in the Priory Church of the Order of St John , Clerkenwell. This tour, and the chance to perform in London is an amazing opportunity for these singers, many of whom hope to become professional.
Sponsor us now to help the University make this opportunity and others like it continue to happen!
The Byre Opera Team
We have been hard at work rehearsing and have just completed our first full run through of the opera! It has been exciting over the last week to start working with some of the set pieces that will be in the show and starting to get a real vision of what the production will look like on stage.
With just over a week to go until our opening night it is now all about refining all of the music, making sure all the words are memorised and dreaming about when and where you should be on stage.
It is great to have the opportunity to work with so many other talented students but also to work with the professional creative and production team who have give a real insight into how a fully professional opera is put together!
Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far! We really need your donations to enable this experience to become an annual fixture in our calendar. Please share this with your family and friends and ask them to donate and sign up as a helper or follower! We need everyone to support us and help us meet our fundraising target. It’s such an incredible opportunity for students at the University and we’re so excited about it.
