Who are we?
We are Saints Hockey, the university of St Andrews Hockey Club.
Founded in 1904, the Saint Hockey Club boasts 8 women's teams and 4 men's team's competing in both BUCUS and national leagues. Providing students the opportunity to play both recreationally and competitively. The club is also deeply integrated into the local community. Individual players devote their Saturday morning each week to provide outreach sessions for children across the northeast Fife region coaching players ranging from 6 to 16 years old.
What are we trying to achieve?
The University of St Andrews Hockey Club aims to provide a Saints Hockey Bursary for the 2024/25 academic year. The goal of the bursary is to make the Saints Hockey Club more financially accessible to current and prospective members. As more students face financial concerns due to the cost-of-living crisis, the added expense of a full club membership may discourage students from joining the club, depriving them of the physical and social benefits of participating in hockey. The bursary will solve this problem by alleviating their financial concerns and allowing them to continue their engagement in the club and sport.
The bursary application and approval processes are administered confidentially by Registry and Student Services: Saints Hockey is not involved at all – we just do the fundraising.
Where will the money go?
The cost of a player membership covers:
- Pitch hire and coaching
- Free access to AU vehicle transport
- Access to National League level umpiring and coaching training
- The opportunity to run for club positions
- BUCUS and league fees
- Exclusive access to club sponsorship deals and promotions
Please note: all payments will be processed at the time of donating. This means that you will be charged immediately upon making your donation. In the event that a project does not reach its specified target, rest assured that your donation will be directed towards area of greatest need related to the club, e.g., purchase of kit, travel and entry fees for competitions. This approach allows us to maximise the impact of your support and ensures that your contribution continues to make a meaningful difference.
