Who we are
Founded in 1904, Saints Hockey is one of the University's oldest and largest sports clubs representing 2.5% of the student body. The club has grown significantly in recent times, expanding from six teams in 2014 to 11 in 2024. Our teams play in BUCS and National Leagues, providing students with opportunities to play competitively and recreationally.
We are raising £4500 to transform how the men's side of the club is coached, providing the next phase of the club's development.
Our ambition - Competing at a higher level consistently
The 2023/2024 season was a highly successful campaign for the University of St Andrews Hockey Club. Four (out of nine) BUCS teams won their respective league as the club played 250 fixtures across the year.
The Men's First Team were a significant part of this success, finishing third in the National League and winning BUCS Scottish Tier 1 with a league-record points tally.
Looking ahead to the 2024/25 season, the squad is committed to achieving promotion in both leagues. In 2023/24, the coaching of the team was entirely student-led. This often made decision-making difficult, especially during matches. Therefore, we are looking to employ an external coach who would make the team's ambitious targets far more attainable.
transforming the coaching of the men's first team
We are looking to employ a high-quality coach that will lead the Men’s First Team through the 2024/25 season. Their role would include:
- Supporting the team on BUCS and National League match days
- Organising the squad's two weekly training sessions
- Overseeing video analysis and strength and conditioning sessions
- Supporting the development of the Men's Second Team through their training programme.
- Provide experience and tactical insight that will elevate the current squad and attract greater sportspeople to the university
