Saints Sport International Volunteering

A project by: University of St Andrews

Saints Sport run two International Volunteering programmes based in Zambia

• Volunteer Zambia

Is an International sport programme run by the Wallace Group, a collaboration between seven leading UK ‘sport’ universities. Students will volunteer alongside the leading Zambian sports NGO Sport in Action (SiA), whose purpose is to improve the lives of young people through sport and recreational activity.

Students will spend 8 weeks in Lusaka, Zambia, supporting SiA to recruit and upskill volunteer Zambian coaches by delivering coaching workshops and supporting coaching sessions, with the aim of Zambian volunteers continuing to lead coaching sessions throughout the year. The programme provides young people with leadership opportunities and increases community outreach. We seek to recruit students as student development officers in Netball, Basketball, Football and Marketing.

• Volunteer Livingstone

Is a stand-alone University of St Andrews volunteer programme. Based in Livingstone, Zambia, students support the work of SiA with the aim of increasing sports participation by setting up community sites and assisting in the development of Zambian coaches and volunteers. The aim is to support SiA to build sustainable programmes where young people can partake in sport and recreational activities throughout the year.

Students will spend 4-6 weeks in Livingstone, supporting the inspirational work of SiA students will support the NGO to develop sport specific and community based coaches. Students will also assist in physical education classes within schools and support inclusion opportunities.

Saints Sport’s RolE

All of our programmes are based on local need and are delivered with the aim of providing sustainable sports development, by working alongside NGO’s and local partners. We aim to support the development work already taking place to improve the lives of young people, by using sport and recreational activities as a tool.
